Your Medicare plan may pay for your gym. Here is how to find out.
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, or certain Medicare Supplement plans, there is a good chance a gym membership is already included at no extra cost. It goes by names like SilverSneakers, Renew Active, and One Pass. Many people have the benefit for years and never know it.

You do not need to guess, and you do not need to give anyone your personal information. Three easy ways:
- Look at your plan papers. Your Summary of Benefits (the booklet your plan sends every year) lists fitness under "extra benefits" or "supplemental benefits."
- Call the number on the back of your insurance card. Ask one question: "Does my plan include a fitness benefit, and which program is it?"
- Use the program's own eligibility checker. SilverSneakers has one at silversneakers.com/eligibility. If you have a UnitedHealthcare plan, sign in at your member site to see if Renew Active is included.
Why this matters more in 2026
Fitness benefits are changing. Some plans dropped SilverSneakers for 2026 and switched to a different program. A smaller number dropped fitness benefits entirely. If your gym routine suddenly stopped working in January, your plan probably changed programs, not you. Here is what to do about it.
One honest warning
This site explains benefits. It does not sell insurance, and it will never tell you which Medicare plan to pick. Anyone who uses a free gym membership as the main reason to switch your health insurance is not looking out for you. Your doctors, your prescriptions, and your out of pocket costs matter far more than any gym perk.
